Halloween Havok
October 31, 2009
NDP's Halloween Havok, whether you believe it or not, was held on the 31st of October in the NDP Arena, the Nameless Municipal Arena in Philadelphia, PA. The night promised wrasslin and costumes even more unusual than well... usual, and while not every performer had a costume (including former NEXUS Champion Gene Starr, who claimed he was already dressed as the best wrestler on the planet), the ones that did certainly didn't disappoint!
The night kicked off with two non-costumed wrestlers taking the stage (perhaps that's why they opened the show?) as Vic Harris and Gambero Unit's Toby Yoyo squared off. Christopher Speil officiated, dressed as famous referee Mills Lane (complete with bald cap and the "I want a good, clean fight" speech). Yoyo took the early advantage, showing good ring awareness, and being smart enough to get out of the ring with Harris started building momentum. Yoyo kept toying with Harris for a good few minutes, but a big frickin' chokeslam outta nowhere caught Yoyo off guard and gave Harris the keys to the driver's seat. Harris seemed to like putting a boot or two to Yoyo's head, but Harris got overzealous and it cost him; he whipped Yoyo to the ropes and went for another huge boot, but Yoyo ducked under and speared Harris mid-kick, hitting Harris when it must've been incredibly uncomfortable for him and Yoyo almost picked up the win on that. The two brought the pain to each other for anther 10 minutes or so, though, all the while 50CENTAVOS' interference keeping Harris from getting the 3-count until Harris gave FIDDY a sliding kick to the head from inside the ring, and then giving one to a downed Toby Yoyo to pick up the victory!
Victor Harris (O) vs (X) Toby Yoyo
26:47, Pinfall by Sliding Kenka Kick
The NDP Champion, the "Angelic Venus" (because she was wearing an angel costume, get it?), Colleen, came to the ring after the match to bore everyone to death about how great she was. AND THEN SHE WAS INTERRUPTED! By who?! None other than the angel-busting witch from the upcoming game Bayonetta, uh... Bayonetta! Except it was really Kaori BayoNiGHTta! Which is probably better anyway (far less uncanny valley). Kaori BayoNiGHTta let it be known very simply that she was here to take the Angelic Venus out tonight (and I don't think she meant to Red Robin). Colleen retorted with "Oh, yeah? Well--" before taking a swing at BayoNiGHTta with the NDP Championship! Kaori was laid out, her glasses shattered, and Mr. Paul (who came out to the ring dressed up like Jack Skellington) took the opportunity to make the main event for later tonight; Kaori BayoNiGHTta versus "The Angelic Venus" Colleen - for the NDP Championship!
Up next brought out a, cough, BEAR-LY recognizable couple in Roselyn Pride and Trent "Trauma" Kasta, both donning bear costumes (we're used to this with Kasta, but I guess Roselyn Ruxpin would be a one-time thing for Halloween Havok,) for Roselyn's match against the Midnite Rave's Pixi Stik. Pixi was of course followed to the ring by Special K and E-rol, yay, but Pixi really has no place in the ring with a psycho like Pride. And it showed. Pixi was completely overwhelmed by Roselyn from the bell, as the vicious and uncuddly Teddy bear Roselyn attacked and, well, started mauling Pixi. That's really the only word for it; it was like something out of "When Animals Attack". Roselyn had beaten Pixi down with a heavy hit to the head and then slapped on her Calamity Symphony [Ground Octopus Hold] and Pixi was tapping like a Morse code operator but the ref was distraced by Special K and E-rol on the outside, which Pixi probably didn't appreciate. Roselyn eventually gave up the hold, for all the good that did, and Pixi started trying to mount some offense, but maybe she should've played dead? Roselyn headbutted Pixi, and then locked in the cobra clutch, swinging Pixi Stik around before finally dropping down to lock in Summon Suffering [Cobra Hold] and this time referee Corrine Whal saw Pixi tapping.
Roselyn Pride (O) vs (X) Pixi Stik
8:57, Submission by Summon Suffering
Out of the next two competitors, one was costumed (though, no more so than usual) and the other wasn't; Princess Aika (w/ The Charcoal Lady) vs Evan Divine. Princess Aika was in control of this one from the get-go, and while Evan got some good hits in (including a nasty lariat that sent Princess Aika spinning around in mid-air and a spectacular German suplex from the corner that sent Princess Aika flying almost the entire way across the ring,) Princess Aika just seemed to be on fire, putting on a great aerial display before sealing the match with the Flash Magic [Dive Neck Knee Drop] for the win.

15:25, Pinfall by Flash Magic
MDWF Champion Gene Starr was out next, claiming to be in-costume as "the greatest wrestler alive" (who, I guess, he's trying to say is him?) faced off once more against Mr. E, dressed as V from V for Vendetta. Mr. V (ha, see how I did that?) and Starr have had some amazing battles at past shows, and this one was no different. Gene and Mr. V started trading heavy punches before Gene swept Mr. V down and they started jockeying for position and eventually rolling out of the ring. Gene and Mr. V kept the heavy hits coming, Gene sending Mr. V into the ringside barriers and throwing rules out of the equation, as he grabbed a chair and charged Mr. V chair-first to smash Mr. V hard in between metal. Gene went for it again, but Mr. V collapsed and Gene had some important face-time with the chair. The "Vendetta Tenor" got the action back into the ring and Mr. V started pummeling Gene with heavy punches and some hard suplexes. Gene started making a huge comeback, landing some heavy punches and knees, then springing off the ropes and hitting a nasty flying knee kick before yelling to the crowd "TIGER KNEE!" to some laughs. Gene took his own turn with some nasty suplexes, giving Mr. V what for, but Mr. V wasn't ready to just roll over and die, and proved that by kicking out of the Gene Splicer [STN]! Even Starr's spinebuster couldn't keep Mr. V down, and V started driving Gene to the mat with some of his more notable attacked like the Balcony Buster [Canadian Hammer]. Mr. V caught Gene with the Phenomenal Mystery [Half-Nelson Suplex], but Gene's feet and fallen under the ropes so Mr. V wasn't able to get the pinfall off it. Mr. V set Gene up on the top rope, maybe going for a superplex or top rope chokeslam, but it was instead Starr that prevailed here, breaking free from Mr. V's grip to deliver a spectacular Gene Splicer from the top rope, and Gene again lucked out to land on top of Mr. V to get the victory.
Gene Starr (O) vs (X) Mr. E
17:29, pinfall by top rope Gene Splicer
The next match was interesting for a couple reasons. First off, it was the first match where every competitor had Halloween Havok costumes. Secondly, it had OG-Joshi World Champion Visper Karr teaming up with the vile and hated Holly Walker. NDP Light-Heavyweight Champion Kazen (dressed as a Blue Lantern) and Tani (wearing the attire of a Star Sapphire) vs Holly Walker (dressed as the "White Queen", Emma Frost) and OG-Joshi World Champion Visper Karr (dressed as Wonder Woman). Oh, ha. I just saw the theme; comic book characters. Well played.
Anyway. The Warriors of Light (being Kazen and Tani) certainly had their work cut out for them against two World Champion-level competitors in Holly Walker and Visper Karr. Even if those two World Champion-level competitors want to kill each other. And desecrate each other's corpses. And wreck each other's funerals. ... You get the point. They don't like each other. Visper let Holly take the lead at Holly's insistence, but she probably wishes she hadn't insisted, because Blue Lantern Brother Kazen doesn't seem to be as peaceful as Blue Lanterns are said to be. In fact, he completely plowed Holly with a right hand to get started. Holly slapped Kazen, and started trying to humiliate him, but Kazen just kept in the fight until Holly had no choice but to tag out to Visper. Everybody seemed to be waiting for the tag, including a grin-wearing Visper Karr (and, let's face it, she was dressed as Wonder Woman; a grin was about all she had on). But Holly managed to not flip out and tagged Visper in as nicely and politely as should be expected. Nobody expected that. Visper must've been expecting to get punched or something and just stood in shock until Holly yelled at her to get into the ring.
OG-Joshi World Champion vs NDP Light-Heavyweight Champion, and Visper started off with that brutal KarrCop Kick [High Kick] and nearly won the match right there! A dazed and bewildered Kazen stumbled over and tagged out to the Star Sapphire Tani (who was incredibly conservatively dressed for a Star Sapphire). Tani and Visper went at it, with Tani bringing the fight to the OG-Joshi World Champion, keeping Visper off-balance and unable to get any power behind those kicks of hers. Tani wrestled Visper down to the ground, kept Visper from getting back into the fight, and after Visper narrowly avoided a diving elbow from Tani, Visper had to make in the tag to Holly, and tags between the two remained tense moments throughout the match.
Tani and Kazen were certainly proving themselves capable of holding their own against Visper Karr and Holly Walker, and control of the match kept back-and-forth between the two teams, with Tani really being the only competitor that was taking to the air.
The end of the match finally came about almost exactly like everyone probably expected; Holly had been wrestling Kazen and the Light-Heavyweight Champion was getting the better of her, so Holly took it out on Visper Karr, yelling all crazy-like and slapping Visper off the apron to "tag her in". Visper got into the ring and delivered a KarrCop Kick to Holly, returning the tag-in to make Holly the legal member of their team, and Visper tossed Holly into the ring for Kazen's Black Wings (Blue Wings?) [D~Geist]!
Sin-Bound (O) vs (X) Holly Walker and Visper Karr
25:02, pinfall by Black Wings
After the match, Visper and the Sin-Bound celebrated in the middle of the ring. BAH GAWD IT WAS ALL A SET-UP! THE DCU SET UP HOLLY FROST BAH GAWD ALMIGHTY!
Next up was a pair of throwbacks; Matt Shane donned the Masked Punk gear for his Halloween Havok costume, and Jason Wesley came in as the 10th Doctor Who. The crowd was pretty electric for this one, and the Doctor looks like he's going to wrestle the match with his dress coat on! What dedication from Wesley, and Masked Punk is going to be wearing his shoulder pads as well! Man, gotta wonder what box Matt Shane had those things in for the last couple years. The bell rings, and there's referee Joe Brown (as "Big" Jon McCarthy), let's get it on!
Matt Shane seemed to be intent on overcoming Jason Wesley in this match, who's one of the last true obstacles to Shane being the true top dog in NDP. But, Matt made the mistake of wrestling the match that Jason wanted to; grounded and slow-paced. Jason Wesley kept Matt Shane on the ground, kept him from taking to the ropes, kept him from taking to the air, for the majority of the match. Jason Wesley never had Matt completely on lock down; Matt was able to reverse or escape a lot of Jason's offense, including a pair of powerbomb attempts, and the Udehishigi [Jujigatame]. Matt started making some headway, rocking Jason with a rolling lariat and a black tiger powerbomb, but when Matt went to pin, Jason locked in the Udehishigi! Matt scrambled for the ropes, Jason trying to stop him from getting there, but Matt managed to get to the ropes and the referee forced a break. The match continued, and the two kept trying to take the upper hand, trying to put the opponent away, and Jason Wesley with the Wrist Clutch Exploder nearly won the day! Matt Shane finally was able to pick up the pace and get things sped up after Jason was dumped to the outside; Matt dove off the top rope and connected with a huge missile dropkick, and then got Jason back into the ring, bounding off the ropes and giving Jason a one-handed bulldog, and catching the rising Wesley with a flying wheelkick! Punk Drop from Matt Shane, and Matt covers to win!
Matt Shane (O) vs (X) Jason Wesley
27:13, Pinfall by Punk Drop
The angel-busting witch, BayoNiGHTta, has come to save the NDP Championship from the evil Angelic Venus, Colleen! Kaori came out strong, rocking Colleen back with some fast elbows and kicks, but a shove to the ropes and a sidewalk slam gave Colleen control, and she started picking apart BayoNiGHTta, specifically targeting Kaori's legs. Colleen stomped Kaori's knees, shoved her into the ropes and then shoulder tackled Kaori's legs, tossed her into the turnbuckles knee-first, anything Colleen could do to stop Kaori from running around and getting in the air. Kaori started making a big comeback after dodging a diving clothesline (which itself is very uncharacteristic for Colleen; she probably won't do that again any time soon,) but it was plainly obvious that the damage had taken its toll on Kaori; her speed had been slowed down, her kicks lacked the arena-echoing "oomph" they usually have, and she couldn't even spring off the ropes for her NiGHTSault - she instead yelped in pain and dropped down on her head. Incredibly nasty. Colleen used that to rally herself back into the match, and the match became incredibly intense once both women started bleeding; Kaori from a knuckle arrow to the nose, and Colleen after a nasty series of chops busted her open above her eyebrow. Kaori started to attack the bleeding spot, smashing Colleen to the mat with a FFF, and then going in with a few kenka kicks (including a shining kenka kick, smashing Colleen's face pretty bad), but Colleen's mindset was to go in for the kill; a Spinning Chamber [H Edge] lead to Colleen setting Kaori on the turnbuckle and delivering a diving piledriver from the second rope! Colleen wasn't able to make the cover, but she went for the Venustamer [High Angle Single Leg Boston Crab] and kept it locked in high and tight, leading a possibly-concussed Kaori to pass out to the hold!
