Bio: (Note: CWF, WFW, and NGW are all feds I've made up)
Matt Shane has very recently demasked and changed his name. He's come to a conclusion that he wants to stop looking so much at the past, at the CWF and at the WWE.
The things currently important in his life are the NDP and the WFW. He could care less about failed companies or failed federation runs. He's figuratively wiping the slate clean and starting fresh.
His reasons behind demasking have not been hidden among WFW fans and employees. He felt the mask and the whole gimmick he had been using were simply holding him back, that he could not break out of his shell and become something new. Some may wonder why he now goes by Matt Shane instead of Matt Wendling, and the reason behind that is familiar to Steve Austin fans. Matt decided he didn't want to use his real name (Matt Shane), as it sounded as though he was related to the Michael Shane family, and he didn't want it to look that way; he picked up a different last name (similar to the change from Steve Williams to Steve Austin), borrowing it from a good friend, and began using that as his name in wrestling promotions. However, he has recently decided he wishes to hide it no more. He isn't related to anyone in TNA, and sees no reason to feel the need to hide that fact.
Also having wiped the slate clean, he's decided to no longer honor his old championship achievements, as he didn't feel as though they were anything to brag about. CWF titles bounced around so much, and the WFW titles that were listed (and no longer appear) were before the WFW received a television deal and was strictly an independent federation.
Some of Matt's accomplishments in the WFW consisted of things like holding the WFW Tag Team Championship with his ex-best friend in the WFW, Phoenix. One night, however, Phoenix (who was also the current X League champ at the time) and Matt were booked in a match for the X League title, while still holding the Tag Team titles. Matt was able to pull off the victory and capture the X title. Phoenix, while disappointed, agreed to show no hard feelings and defend the Tag Team titles the following week. The match ended, seeing Phoenix covered for a pinfall and Matt being incapacitated, unable to make the save. Phoenix blamed everything on Matt, insisting that Matt had single-handedly destroyed all of Phoenix's accomplishments. Phoenix and Matt had a hellacious feud for the X League title, spawning huge matches week after week, including what has been called the greatest Ladder Matches in the history of the WFW. In the end, Matt successfully thwarted Phoenix and his attempts to rob him of the X League title, however, Matt has recently dropped it by loss to a fellow WFW X Leaguer.
However, Matt's loss of the X League title was no fault of his own, it was due to interferance by fellow W-1 Series Finalist [must go unnamed until I'm granted permission to use it]. These two feuded up until the big WFW pay-per-view War's antheM, which took place August 28, 2004 [Matt's note: due to inability to gain permission of edits, i have decided NOT to post this PPV on the NDP forums as previously anticipated, hence while I'm spoiling the main event]. These two battled in a match most memorible, but the end came when Matt finally captured his first WFW Worlds Championship.
Matt has truely earned his accomplishments in the WFW, however, the NDP is a whole other story. In the NDP, Matt is still fighting to the top, trying to show the NDP superstars that he isn't just some independent wrestler, walking in to get fame. He's been through hell and back, and if anyone could simply deny that his accomplishments are worthless, they'd have to be out of their minds.
